Professor Lord received her M.A. degree from Tulane University, and Ph.D. from the University of Michigan where she specialized in nineteenth through early twentieth century European art history under the direction of Dr. Joel Isaacson. Her dissertation reconstructed the career of leading modernista painter Ramon Casas Carbó based on findings in more than 150 private collections. Professor Lord’s research focuses on the evolution of modernism in Spain up to the fall of the Second Republic (1939). The exhibition Barcelona and Modernity: Picasso, Gaudí, Miró, Dalí, which she co-directed, addressed the rich genesis of Spanish modernism in Barcelona, and the roots of Picasso, among other leading Spanish figures, in that experience. Her scholarship explores gender and minority representation, and the intersection of industrialization, feminism and religion with art, along with design history and landscape architecture. She is completing a book on the first all-woman landscape architecture firm in the Northwest, as well as an article on images of working women in fin-de-siglo Spain.
