Biography

Elizabeth Frost earned her undergraduate degree from Yale University and her law degree from the University of Michigan Law School, where she was managing editor of the Michigan Journal of Race and Law.  Before joining Oregon Law, she practiced with the firm Sidley Austin in both Los Angeles and Chicago, focusing on commercial real estate.

Professor Frost recently served as the editor-in-chief of Legal Writing: The Journal of the Legal Writing Institute (JLWI), and currently serves on its editorial board. She has published articles in the Journal of Legal Education and Stetson Law Review. She has been a frequent contributor to the Oregon State Bar Bulletin’s Legal Writer column.

She is active with both the Association of Legal Writing Directors and the Legal Writing Institute, recently serving on ALWD’s Scholarship Grants Committee and Publications Committee and LWI’s New Member Outreach Committee. She led program planning committees for the 2019-2023 ALWD national conference and is currently serving on the 2025 ALWD conference program committee. And Professor Frost has hosted three regional conferences at Oregon Law: the 2012 and 2022 Western Regional Legal Writing Conferences and the 2015 Legal Writing and Leadership Conference.

Professor Frost has been recognized with multiple awards, at home and nationally. In 2016, the University of Oregon recognized Professor Frost’s dedication to teaching and pedagogical innovations by awarding her the Ersted Award for Specialized Pedagogy. She is a three-time recipient of the ALWD Outstanding Service Award. Professor Frost was awarded the 2021 Orlando J. Hollis Teaching Award, the law school's highest recognition of teaching excellence.

She has twice been selected as the University of Oregon School of Law's Galen Scholar in Legal Writing; in that role, she researched and led classes to develop students' legal reading and writing skills.
