Emrakeb is originally from Ethiopia, but earned her BA and MA in India, and an MA in Journalism and Media Studies from Rhodes University in South Africa. She has worked as an editor and reporter for newspapers in Ethiopia, as well as a public information assistant and lecturer. Her research interest areas range from audience research, media and democracy, gender studies to the role of social media in Ethiopia.
