With experience in all three branches of state and federal government and degrees in Law, Water Resources Policy and Management, and Earth Systems Geography, Malia brings an interdisciplinary perspective to the classroom to to discuss the ways that systems of environmental decision-making impact marginalized communities.  Malia is a law clerk at the U.S. District Court of Oregon.  She has also clerked at the Oregon Supreme Court and Oregon Court of Appeals.  In these capacities, Malia supervised law student interns and externs and helped to facilitate court-wide externship programs.  While in graduate school, Malia worked as a law clerk in the Appellate Section and Indian Resources Section of the Environment and Natural Resources Division at the U.S. Department of Justice; as an intern and District 16 Assistant Watermaster at the Oregon Water Resources Department; and as an intern for Senator Arnie Roblan at the Oregon State Legislature. Before law school, Malia was a research assistant in stream biogeochemistry and landscape ecology at Duke University and an aquaculture specialist for California Sea Grant at U.C. San Diego.
