Samira Baei is a PhD student and graduate employee at the University of Oregon’s School of Journalism and Communication. Originally from Iran, Samira has a rich background in film production, having worked as a director, assistant director, and editor on a variety of projects, including award-winning short films and series. She holds a master’s in cinema from Soore University, where her thesis examined symbolic violence among women in Iranian cinema, drawing on Pierre Bourdieu’s theories.

Her research lies at the intersection of cinema, sociology, and gender studies, with a focus on the portrayal of women in post-revolutionary Iranian cinema. Beyond academia, Samira is dedicated to understanding media’s impact on culture, gender, and identity. She aims to contribute to both scholarly discourse and practical filmmaking, using cinema as a tool for social change. Her goal is to balance her roles as an academic and media professional, making meaningful contributions to global discussions on women’s rights and the power of storytelling.
