I currently teach 4th-year Spoken Japanese, however I have also taught 1st, 3rd, and 5th-year as well as some graduate courses. Additionally, my responsibilities include Japanese major/minor advising.
Based on doctoral research and hands-on experience, my teaching philosophy encompasses the following principles: (1) that students should achieve communicative competence linguistically and culturally; (2) that students become independent learners with the assistance of learning strategies; and (3) that instructors should be willing to adjust teaching strategies according to the differing personal and cultural needs of the students. I believe these principles will facilitate students’ opportunity to learn the language efficiently and effectively.
