Biography

Anshuman Razdan (“AR”) is the Vice President for Research and Innovation at the University of Oregon. He directs the office of research and innovation and oversees the university’s entire research enterprise. He is committed to enhancing research excellence and strengthening the role of research, scholarship, and creative activity across the University. He works alongside the President and Senior Vice President and Provost to strengthen existing research programs and develop new partnerships and collaborations that make the UO a key contributor to the cultural, scientific, and economic development of the state, nation, and the world.

As UO's chief research officer, AR oversees the majority of UO’s multidisciplinary research centers and institutes, strategic research initiatives and partnerships, research infrastructure, core facilities and administration, compliance and regulatory environment, innovation and commercialization efforts, and works with the UO donor community to support research initiatives. He collaborates with deans, faculty, and colleagues in areas that support the research mission of the university.

Razdan joined the UO in the summer of 2022. He is a computer scientist with a distinguished record of interdisciplinary research in the areas of geometric design, computer graphics, document exploitation, and geospatial visualization and analysis. Prior to coming to Oregon, Razdan served as the associate vice president of research development at the University of Delaware, where he established three research core facilities, the UD Data Science Institute, and helped secure millions of dollars in research funding across the board.

Prior to his time at the University of Delaware, AR was a professor (now emeritus) and center director in School of Computing Informatics Decision Science and Engineering at Arizona State University for 20 years. He has served as the principal investigator and a collaborator on grants from numerous federal agencies.

AR has a B.S. and M.S. in mechanical engineering and Ph.D. in computer science. He holds multiple patents including on 3D face authentication and document exploitation. AR also holds a tenured faculty appointment in the University of Oregon College of Arts and Sciences.
